Artist Statement:
My ceramics include sculptural vessels, wall tiles, and artist's books, handbuilt or thrown and altered, marked with tools, pencils, slips, glazes, and iron toner prints.
I explore various vessel forms, drawing from architectural and utilitarian traditions. Writing, calligraphy, and graffiti are frequent sources of imagery, expressing messages that may be variously interpreted depending on context. I use stoneware clays on which can impress patterns, carve by hand, and impose final layers of printed material. Pieces are fired to ^6 (2,232 F) in an electric kiln. Intimate and personal works of art, they should be perceived through touch as well as sight.
