Artist Statement:

My grandmother, Maude Curry Roberts, was an early and abiding influenece on how I approach my work. She was a stickler for completing a garment in what I would later learn was a couture finish.

My early design work always involved her, as she could make anything I could imagine, with or without a pattern, and often from several mashed-together magazine pictures.

And then it was a glorious trip to the fabric store to pick out just the right fabrics for the ensemble. I was probably the only adolescent in my age group in an Easter dress that had a matching bonnet as well as fabric-trimmed socks. I still get giddy about fabrics—the feel, the color, and the smell. It's intoxicating.

Later, what launched my interest in fashion design as a career was an awareness of my own taste and style and the research I did to dress myself. Because I often couldn't find what I wanted to wear, I thought that others, with a similar style, might be looking and not finding their style either. Filling the gap beautifully is my intention.
