

Artist Statement:
Charles Berk began working with clay while attending Miami University (Ohio). He also studied ceramics at the Cleveland Institute of Art. While attending law school at the George Washington University, Charles pursued graduate studies in ceramics. He creates wheel-thrown porcelain art objects greatly influenced by Japanese, Chinese, and Korean ceramics. Most recently he has expanded his portfolio to explore through clay mid-20th-century Abstract Expressionism and the work of the Washington Color School. Charles has exhibited his work in the Creative Crafts Council biennial shows at the Strathmore Mansion and regularly at the Scope Gallery in the Torpedo Factory Art Center.
